Jake’s Journey

Having been unemployed for about a year Jake was searching for any support that could help him get back into employment.

Whilst attending a careers event in Wellingborough, he discovered Talent Match and decided to sign up after speaking to one of the Champions.

Jake told Josh, his Talent Match Champion, of his goal to become a fully qualified motor mechanic and they discussed the barriers that were preventing him from gaining his ideal job.

From this, they agreed that Jake would benefit from work experience, as this would allow him to showcase his skills in front of an employer.

A few days later Josh got back in touch and informed him of an opportunity that had been created through the Talent Match team; a work experience placement at a local mechanics called T & D Autos.

Seeing this as a possible stepping stone into employment he took the opportunity and started the placement less than a week later.

T & D Autos were very impressed with Jake. He showed motivation, commitment and an eagerness to learn new skills.

Within a fortnight they offered Jake full-time employment as an apprentice mechanic, which he accepted immediately.

Whilst in employment he continues to receive advice and support from Josh and other members of the Talent Match team.

Jake had this to say about his experience:

“I met Talent Match at a Job Fair and arranged a meeting a few days later. From there I had a meeting with my current place of work (T&D Autos) on the Friday of that week and since then I have done work experience, which has led to me getting an Apprenticeship in the motor trade. Josh has been my point of contact and has been a great help throughout, advising me on what to do. Talent Match has helped me pursue a career and the perfect opportunity for me. I would like to thank everyone who is involved with this process and helped me to get where I want to be”.
